U20 Vietnam closes the list for the 2023 AFC U20 Championship
People's Public Security PVF and SLNA contribute the most to this list, with five players each. Behind are Hanoi and HAGL, with three players each. The rest came from Viettel (3), Quang Nam (2), Da Nang (1) and Binh Duong (1) teams.
Only four U20 players are playing in the V-League, including defender Ho Van Cuong, midfielders Tran Nam Hai, Dinh Xuan Tuan of SLNA and striker Bui Vi Hao of Binh Duong. In addition, the list also includes Nguyen Van Truong and Khuat Van Khang - the pair of midfielders who participated in the U23 Asian final round 2022 also in Uzbekistan, the top scorer of the youth tournaments Nguyen Quoc Viet, or the best player in the final round of U17. national 2022 Thai Ba Dat.
The two most regrettable names are defender Vu Van Son of Hanoi and striker Nguyen Phi Hoang of Da Nang, both because of injuries. In the past two seasons, Phi Hoang has been regularly kicked under the guidance of coach Phan Thanh Hung. The remaining five eliminated names include Nguyen Huu Tuan, Nguyen Van Tu, Tieu Trung Hieu (Viettel), Truong Tri Thien (Ho Chi Minh City Thong Nhat Sports Center) and Tran Quang Vinh (Thanh Hoa).
Coach Hoang Anh Tuan said it was a difficult decision to remove the player this time. But he emphasized that the opportunity is still open for players who are not named, and those selected must prove they are worthy to serve the team.
U20 Vietnam gathered from the end of January, practicing until February 15 at the VFF Youth Football Training Center. After that, the team went on to train for four days in Saudi Arabia and seven days in the UAE. At these two places, the team played two friendlies, won U20 Saudi Arabia 2-1 and lost to Dubai City FC 0-1.
Tomorrow morning, February 26, the whole team will move to Uzbeskitan to attend the 2023 AFC U20 Finals. Vietnam is in Group B with Australia, Qatar and Iran. The team kicked off the opening match on March 1 against Australia. The best achievement of Vietnamese football in this tournament is to finish fourth in 2016 with Quang Hai and Van Hau.
