U22 Indonesia does not have the best force in SEA Games 32

CambodiaU22 Indonesia could not bring midfielder Elkan Baggott and striker Ronaldo Kwateh to Phnom Penh for the SEA Games 32 men's football gold medal.

Ronaldo just got injured in a friendly match against U22 Lebanon 1-0 on April 16 and did not recover in time to go with the whole team to Cambodia today April 25. Meanwhile, the British second-tier club Cheltenham Town made the excuse that the SEA Games were not on the FIFA Days calendar and refused to allow Baggott to join the army. The 1m94-tall central defender is an important factor for both U22 and the Indonesian national team.

Also playing abroad like Baggott, but two other pillars of U22 Indonesia - striker Marselino Ferdinan and left-back Pratama Arhan - were facilitated by the host club to attend the SEA Games on this occasion. Arhan is part of the reserve of Tokyo Verdy, has not played a match for the Japanese club in the J-League 2 this season. Marselino is integrating well having played four games, scoring once for Deinze in the Belgian First Division

Half of Indonesia's U22 squad has experience in the SEA Games, in which midfielder Witan Sulaeman is the most experienced when participating in three consecutive seasons. The 21-year-old midfielder was assigned the captain's armband in Cambodia, and is eager to join the team for the gold medal after having silver medals in 2019 and bronze medals in 2022, respectively.

During the training session, U22 Indonesia played two friendly matches against Lebanon, losing 1-2 and winning 1-0, respectively. Today, April 25, the team was in Cambodia, preparing for the opening match of Group A against the Philippines on April 29.

CNN Indonesia evaluates the home team's chance to win the 32nd SEA Games when it avoids strong opponents in the group stage such as Vietnam, Thailand, and Malaysia. The last time Indonesia won a gold medal was at the 1991 SEA Games, the last time it reached the final was the 30th SEA Games in the Philippines and lost 0-3 to Vietnam.
