Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk may be fined for overreacting after receiving a red card against Newcastle.

Van Dijk pointed at referee John Brooks and used harsh words after being sent off. He also refused to leave the field and argued with table referee Craig Pawson when he encountered him on the touchline.

According to the Daily Mail, the Dutch player's behavior could get him in trouble. Van Dijk has only been suspended for one game by this direct red card, but if convicted by the FA, the Liverpool midfielder could sit out longer.

Former referee Mike Dean commented: "Van Dijk expressed his dissatisfaction by verbally attacking fourth referee Craig Pawson. This goes beyond the limit and violates the FA's code of conduct."

The referee's match report mentioned Van Djik's behavior. Under FA regulations, inappropriate behavior, including uncontrolled speech, can result in a player receiving a cold penalty after the game. In the past, some players have been punished for similar errors. Currently, the FA has not commented on Van Dijk's case.

Van Dijk was shown a red card for an illegal challenge by Alexander Isak, which prevented the Newcastle striker from having a chance to score after 28 minutes. The situation took place just minutes after Liverpool had been conceded by Anthony Gordon. However, despite losing most of the time, Jurgen Klopp's teachers and students still created an unbelievable comeback thanks to a brace in the last 10 minutes of the striker replacing Darwin Nunez.

Despite winning three points, Van Dijk's suspension will be a loss to the Anfield team in the next round, when they take on the team in high form Aston Villa. Currently, Liverpool are fourth in the Premier League with seven points after two wins and one draw.
