German media listed Julian Nagelsmann, Louis van Gaal and Zidane as potential candidates to lead the team, after Hansi Flick was fired.

According to daily newspaper Die Welt, four names may be considered by the German Football Federation (DFB).

First is Nagelsmann - the coach who is free after being fired by Bayern in March 2023. He is highly appreciated for his experience and understanding of German football. Leading Bayern from the 2021-2022 season, Nagelsmann achieved a 71.4% win rate - only less than two former coaches Pep Guardiola and Flick, winning the Bundesliga and two German Super Cups. Previously, he brought RB Leipzig to second place in the Bundesliga in the 2020-2021 season.

Die Welt pointed out two problems in this deal, including financial problems when it is difficult for DFB to meet Nagelsmann's high salary and this coach is still under contract with Bayern, even though he is no longer in position for the past half year. Second is the experience of Nagelsmann - who is only 36 years old and must take over the unstable German dressing room. At Bayern, one of the reasons why Nagelsmann lost his job was conflicts with the team's pillars.

Van Gaal is another name on Die Welt's list. Unlike Nagelsmann, Van Gaal - 72 years old - has a lot of experience and is one of the most successful coaches in the world. He won three Dutch championships, one Champions League, one UEFA Cup with Ajax, two La Ligas with Barca, one Dutch championship with AZ, one Bundesliga and once reached the Champions League final with Bayern. Van Gaal also led the Dutch team to win a bronze medal at the 2014 World Cup.

Van Gaal is currently out of work after stopping with the Netherlands in the quarterfinals of the 2022 World Cup and has not led any other team since then. In an interview with Bild last week, the 72-year-old coach admitted that he did not want to lead the club, but could continue his coaching career at the national team level.

The other two listed by Die Welt are legends Lothar Matthaus and Oliver Glasner. Among them, Glasner, 49 years old, won the 2022 Europa League with Frankfurt and is free after parting ways with this Bundesliga club at the end of the 2022-2023 season. But Matthaus - who holds the record for playing for Germany with 150 matches - said he did not want to take on the job and recommended compatriot Jurgen Klopp, but he is currently in position at Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Bild newspaper lists ten candidates who could succeed Flick including Nagelsmann, Rudi Voller, Matthias Sammer, Lothar Matthaus, Miroslav Klose, Jurgen Klinsmann, Oliver Glasner, Klopp, Van Gaal and Zinedine Zidane.

Among them, the most notable name is Zidane - who has been away from football since leaving Real in the summer of 2021. Including both terms, the French coach led the royal team in a total of 263 matches, of which 174 wins, 1 draw. 53 and lost 36. He helped the club win 11 titles, most notably three consecutive Champions Leagues in the period 2015-2017 and two La Ligas.

Voller is the current Director of the DFB, who led the German team from 2000-2004, reaching the 2002 World Cup final. Sammer is a former midfielder who won the 1996 Golden Ball and led Dortmund to win the 2002 Bundesliga before working as a coach. Technical Director of DFB in the period 2006-2011.

On September 10, one day after the tragic 1-4 loss to Japan at the Volkswagen Arena, the DFB announced Flick's dismissal. While waiting to appoint a new head coach, the German team will use a temporary coaching staff to prepare for a friendly match with France at home in Westfalen, Dortmund on September 12. This group has three members, including DFB Director Rudi Voller - who led the team to the 2002 World Cup runner-up position, U20 team coach Hannes Wolf, and 35-year-old former striker and former national player Sandro Wagner.

Flick was Joachim Low's assistant on the German coaching staff that won the 2014 World Cup. He made a splash in two seasons leading Bayern, including winning six titles in the 2019-2020 season, including the Bundesliga and the National Cup. German National Championship, Champions League, German Super Cup, European Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

After Low left in the summer of 2021, Flick was appointed to replace him, but was under a lot of pressure when Germany was eliminated from the 2022 World Cup group stage. In 25 matches under this 58-year-old coach, Germany only won 12.
