Van Persie: 'Arsenal will win the Premier League this season'
"According to my personal feeling, Arsenal will win the Premier League," Van Persie told Sky Sports on March 27. "It's been a long time since Arsenal won the title. I would be happy if they won it this season."
In the match against Astom Villa 4-2 on February 18, Arsenal scored two decisive goals in injury time. In the 3-2 win against Bournemouth on March 4, the "Gunners" came upstream after losing two goals. According to Van Persie, these two results show that Arsenal have acquired the necessary courage. "They took three points in difficult games," praised Van Persie. "That's what makes a champion."
The last time Arsenal won the Premier League was the 2003-2004 season. But after the peak of former manager Arsene Wenger, the "Gunners" gradually declined. In the last six seasons, Arsenal have consistently finished outside the Top 4.
This season is the biggest hope for Arsenal to return to the top. Coach Mikel Arteta's teachers and students are leading, with 69 points after 28 matches, eight points more than defending champion Man City and playing more than one match. If you win nine of the remaining 10 matches, Arsenal will win the title regardless of the outcome of Man City.
In early February, Arsenal earned just one point in three games against Everton, Brentford and Man City. But their excellent form then brought them back to number one. Arsenal won all of the last six Premier League matches, including two defeats at Everton 4-0 and Crystal Palace 4-1.
Van Persie played for Arsenal for eight seasons. The former Dutch striker scored 132 goals in 278 matches for the "Gunners". Having won only one FA Cup and one English Super Cup with Arsenal, Van Persie moved to Man Utd in 2012. This move helped him win an English Premier League and an English Super Cup.
Van Persie was the Premier League's top scorer in two seasons 2011-2012 and 2012-2013. He scored 272 goals in 593 club matches and 50 goals in 102 games for the Netherlands.
Van Persie won the silver medal at the 2010 World Cup with the Netherlands team and the bronze medal at the 2014 World Cup. After leaving Man Utd in 2015, he played for three years for Fenerbahce and one year for Feyenoord. Van Persie has joined the Feyenoord coaching staff since 2020.
