New Zealand Portugal defeated Cameroon 2-1 in the play-off this afternoon on February 22, becoming the last representative in Group E of the 2023 Women's World Cup with Vietnam.

Portugal dominated, kept the ball 63% of the time, shot 20 times with five goals. 22 minutes, Diana Gomes opened the scoring for Portugal. But the score 1-0 was maintained until the 84th minute, Cameroon suddenly rose up.

In the 84th minute, Michaela Abam sped up and coldly shot into the net, but made an offside error. However, coach Gabriel Zabo's army did not have long regrets when they scored the equalizer five minutes later. Dolores Silva broke the ball to let Monique Ngock steal the ball, set up captain Ajara Nchout's shot to sink diagonally to deceive the Portuguese goalkeeper. However, the drama of the match did not stop when the second half had nine minutes of injury time.

In the second minute, Portugal counter-attacked, creating an opportunity for substitute Andreia Jacinto to finish in the penalty area but was saved by Estelle Johnson. After consulting VAR, the referee awarded Portugal a penalty when it was determined that Johnson's handball prevented a situation that could have resulted in a goal. On the 11m mark, Carole Costa's shot sank into the right corner to raise the score to 2-1.

The remaining time is not enough for Cameroon to create another surprise. Waikato Stadium is divided in half with the opposite happy and sad tears of the players of the two teams.

Portugal will attend the 2023 World Cup with a place in Group E, encountering the reigning US champion, the runner-up Netherlands and the team also participating in the Vietnam tournament for the first time. Portugal will play its opening match against the Netherlands on July 23.

This result is in line with Vietnam's captain Huynh Nhu. She is playing for the Portuguese club Lank and somewhat understands the opponent. The Portuguese squad has no Lank players, mainly a collection of the three giants SC Braga, Benfica and Sporting CB.

Before Portugal, Haiti was the first representative of the play-off round to win tickets to the 2023 World Cup. The North Central American representative is ranked 55th in FIFA, surprising when defeating the more appreciated team, Chile 2- first. Haiti will share Group D with Great Britain, Denmark and China.

The final team to attend the Women's World Cup will be determined after the pair of Paraguay vs Panama. The winner will advance to Group F against France, Jamaica and Brazil. The 2023 World Cup takes place from July 20 to August 20 in Australia and New Zealand, with 32 teams divided into eight groups.
