Vietnam entered the top 4 of the 2023 Asian women's volleyball tournament
At the VTV Cup two weeks ago, Australia lost 0-3 to the second team of Vietnam. At Nakhon Ratchasima Stadium today, they continued to lose after three sets when facing Vietnam's strongest team.
The match lasted only about an hour, with the score 25-15, 25-15, 25-21 in favor of Nguyen Tuan Kiet's teachers and students.
In the previous match, Thailand easily won 3-0 against South Korea, certainly joining Vietnam in the semi-finals one match early. This is the first time Vietnam has entered the top 4 of the Asian women's volleyball championship. In the previous 10 participations, the team's best performance was fifth in 2017 and 2019.
This is the next memorable milestone for Vietnamese women's volleyball in 2023, after winning the Asian Club Championship and AVC Challenge Cup to win tickets to the FIVB Challenger Cup.
In this year's tournament, Vietnam led the preliminary round of Group C by defeating South Korea 3-2, Uzbekistan 3-0 and Taiwan 3-1. Mr. Kiet and his team, along with Korea, entered the top 8 classification round in Group E with hosts Thailand and Australia. The results in the preliminary round remained the same, so Thailand had three points due to a 3-0 win over Australia, followed by Vietnam and South Korea with two and one point respectively.
As a rule, each team receives three points when winning 3-0 or 3-1. If the score is 3-2, the winner gets two extra points, and the loser gets one point. After today's victory, Thailand has six points, and Vietnam is behind with one point less. The two teams will compete for the top of the table at 6pm tomorrow 4/9.
It is likely that coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet will have a plan to preserve the strength of some pillars, aiming for the semi-finals on September 5. Vietnam's opponents, China or Japan, are both very strong.
