The Vietnamese men's football team advanced one level, while Thailand dropped three positions on the FIFA ranking table on April 6.

From the recent FIFA table on December 22, 2022 to the latest position on April 6, 2023, Vietnam earned an additional 1.06 points, bringing the current score to 1,229.69. The team moved up one place to 95th in the world, 16th in Asia and still top in Southeast Asia. The above changes are calculated from the results at the AFF Cup 2022, when Vietnam played eight matches, won four, drew three and lost one, finishing second in the tournament after Thailand.

Thailand won the AFF Cup with five wins, two draws and one loss, accumulating more FIFA points. However, in two friendly matches in March 2023, they lost to Syria 1-3 and the UAE 0-2 in West Asia, resulting in a deduction of 7.87 points. Combining these two periods, Thailand lost 1.52 points, only 1,171.88 points, falling three places to 114th in the world, 21st in Asia, still second in Southeast Asia.

Vietnam is 19 FIFA ranks ahead of Thailand, although Alexandre Polking's army is the reigning champion of Southeast Asia. This is not the biggest difference between the two teams according to the FIFA calculation. In August 2021, Vietnamo was 28 places ahead of Thailand

In Southeast Asia, the Philippines is still third but falls two places to 136th in the world. Malaysia rose to eight places by accumulating 15.53 points, to 138th in the world. Indonesia also earned 12.24 points, to 149th FIFA position.

Argentina with two friendly matches against Panama and Curacao, rose to number one in the world with 1,840.93 points. This is the first time Lionel Messi and his teammates have returned to this position since 2017. World Cup 2022 runner-up France also climbed to second, pushing former number one Brazil to third.

The FIFA order table is the criteria for seeding in the qualifiers and finals of the FIFA system tournaments, such as the World Cup or the Asian Cup. This is the longest period of Vietnam in the Top 100 in history, lasting 1,590 days since November 29, 2018.
