Vietnam lost to China in the Asian women's volleyball tournament
China did not bring the strongest squad to Thailand for the tournament. Among the 13 athletes, Xu Xiaoting, Zhong Hui and Yang Hanyu are rare cases participating in the Nations League women's volleyball world tournament. Otherwise, they create conditions for many young athletes.
East Asia representatives have an average height of 1.87 m. The blockers alone have an average height of 1.9 m, especially Yang Hanyu is up to 1.96 m tall. With that advantage, in the first two halves, China scored nine points from the ball and only let Vietnam score 12 attack points. That difference helped China win 25-13 and 25-12 after 42 minutes.
Not only helpless against the opponent's defense, Vietnam made many mistakes in blocking the first step and defending the back row. China possesses spinning serves, and its hitters are often taller than Vietnam's fielders.
In the third half, coach Zhoa Yong created more opportunities for reserve players to play. Vietnam took advantage of this change and created an improved position to sometimes lead the opponent by two points. The second pass behind Doan Thi Lam Oanh helped Tran Thi Bich Thuy drop or smash through the barrier to score a beautiful point.
However, when the score entered the first two, China took the lead and ended with a score of 25-22 thanks to successfully blocking Hoang Thi Kieu Trinh's smash.
China entered the final, and Vietnam participated in the third-place match tomorrow, September 6. Vietnam's opponent is the losing team in the Thailand - Japan match taking place tonight. If successful, Vietnam will win tickets to the 2025 World Women's Volleyball Championship.
