Germany's defeat by Tran Quyet Chien against former number one Dani Sanchez caused Vietnam to once again miss the semi-finals of the world team carom 3 in 2023.

In the quarter-final match between Vietnam and Spain, Quyet Chien lost to four-time world individual champion Dani Sanchez 31-40 after 13 innings. Quyet Chien averaged 2,384 points in each round, but still could not overcome the Spanish opponent in high form. Sanchez averaged 3,076 points per turn.

The defeat of Quyet Chien forced Nguyen Duc Anh Chien to win against Ruben Legazpi in the following game, to bring the match into a doubles tie-break series. Chien completed the task with 40 points, when he led 40-36. But because Anh Chien depa first, Legazpi was depa later with the goal of winning four points. The 41-year-old Spaniard completed the task and drew 40-40, sending Spain into the semi-finals.

Vietnam lost to Spain in the final 1-3, and could not make history for the first time in the semi-finals at the tournament. The team has reached the quarterfinals three times but stopped in this round. In the previous period, Quyet Chien and Anh Chien were eliminated by two German players.

Spain entered the semi-finals against Sweden, the other match taking place between defending champions Turkey and the Netherlands. Turkey has the opportunity to win the title for the third time in a row.

The world 3-team carom tournament started in 1981, so far it has passed 35 times. Since 1990, the tournament has always taken place in Viersen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. This year's tournament 2023 will take place from March 9 to March 12 with 16 teams, each team sending two players with high positions on the UMB ranking table. Vietnam surpassed Group D with second place, behind Sweden.

The next tournament under the World Billiards Federation (UMB) system is the World Cup in Ho Chi Minh City from May 22 to May 28.
