Vietnam wins last match before AFF Cup 2022
Score: Van Quyet 90'+2
Vietnam faced many difficulties before the Philippines defense, and had to rely on Van Quyet's cross to change direction at the penultimate minute to defeat the opponent. In the 92nd minute, Nguyen Hai Huy passed the ball into the penalty area for Van Quyet to receive the ball on the left. Van Quyet's cross hit defender Paul Tabinas' leg and changed direction to a long-range high angle, causing goalkeeper Kevin Hansen to be subdued.
The victory helped Vietnam earn an additional 1.97 points on the FIFA ranking table, bringing the team's score to 1,228.62 points. However, Park Hang-seo's teachers and students still ranked 96th in FIFA.
Coach Park swapped the players' shirt numbers in this friendly match, partly to make it difficult for the opponent at the AFF Cup 2022 to watch Vietnam football. Because Nguyen Quang Hai has not returned to the army, and Nguyen Hoang Duc and Doan Van Hau are injured, Vietnam lacks creativity in the midfield. The responsibility for making the ball is more for Van Quyet, when he plays to the left in the three-man midfield of the 5-3-2 formation.
The host's first dangerous opportunity came in the 36th minute, when Van Quyet ran into the defense armpit, received a high pass from Nguyen Phong Hong Duy, then flicked his cheek to the second column for Bui Hoang Viet Anh to miss the post. Three minutes later, striker Nguyen Van Toan received the ball in the second line and then shot with the toe of his shoe to spin the ball and bounce off the crossbar.
Vietnam continued to face many difficulties in the second half, when the Philippines actively played low and asked for a draw. The opportunity passed through the feet of Nguyen Tien Linh, Pham Tuan Hai or Phan Van Duc in turn. Thinking that the host would be held to a draw, Van Quyet shone at the last minute to bring the victory. Midfielder Arnel Amita collapsed on the field and punched repeatedly on the grass after the home team conceded a goal. The Philippines almost created a surprise at Hang Day Stadium, but this is just a friendly game anyway.
Vietnam will play the opening match of the AFF Cup 2022 after exactly one week, meeting Laos in Vientiane. Six days later, Park's teachers and students played at My Dinh Stadium to welcome Malaysia, and then as guests in Singapore. In the last round of Group B on January 3, 2023, Vietnam took on Myanmar.
The Philippines is in Group A and will meet Cambodia, Brunei, Thailand and Indonesia, respectively.
