Vietnam won big in the first match of the Asian U23 qualifying round
Scored: Van Do 33, Van Tung pen 54, Van Cuong 68, Thanh Nhan 79, Van Toan 83, Vi Hao pen 90
Before the opponent who attended the tournament for the first time and was ranked 203rd in FIFA, Vietnam faced more difficulties than expected in the first half. The turning point of the match came from a situation on the edge of the home team, when central defender Nguyen Ngoc Thang passed a long pass to Nguyen Thanh Nhan and plunged down the right wing. Thanh Nhan crossed in when the Guam defense could not recover, helping Van Do cushion the ball to the far corner to open the score. This goal seemed to remove the pressure for the home team, even though the team had to wait until the second half to explode.
In the first half, Vietnam also created many opportunities mainly from crosses, because the away team played hard and defended in large numbers. The away team did not create any significant opportunities in the match, while the red shirt players continuously shot at the goal. Even though the home team squandered the opportunity, the audience at Viet Tri Stadium still cheered non-stop. Outside the field, coach Philippe Troussier repeatedly came close to the touchline and shouted loudly at the players.
The knot in the match was removed again at the beginning of the second half, when defender Vo Minh Trong was fouled from behind by James Gomez in the penalty area, causing referee Tam Ping Wun to award a penalty to the home team. Striker Nguyen Van Tung took advantage of the opportunity to score to increase the score to 2-0, after missing many previous opportunities.
In the second half of the second half, Guam clearly lost physical strength, when several players had cramps at times. Coach Philippe Troussier's army took advantage of this to score four more goals thanks to the work of Ho Van Cuong, Thanh Nhan, Hoang Van Toan and Bui Vi Hao. Every time the team scores, the audience waves the flag together, a corner of the field glowing red. In the final minutes of the match, many female spectators even danced to the music when the game was easy for the home team.
Despite the big win, the performance of the red shirt players was not too impressive. Many players, when catching the ball in the penalty area, were thrown away, or handled the ball poorly. However, the difference in strength between the two teams is too obvious and the score also reflects that.
Vietnam rose to the top of Group C after the first series of matches, with the same three points as Yemen but with a better goal difference. The next challenge for Troussier and his team is expected to be more difficult when they meet Yemen at 7:00 p.m. on September 9.
