Vietnam won Thailand in the first round of Chess Olympiad
Before the opponent with a much lower average Elo, Vietnam was predicted to win absolutely. But at Ban Hai, Hoang Thi Bao Tram lost even though he had a great advantage before the 15 -year -old Araya Prombuang. This result does not affect the victory of Vietnam, when Vo Thi Kim Phung, Nguyen Thi Mai Hung and Bach Ngoc Thuy Duong have won Sarocha Chuemsakul, Napat Khantree and Anya Belle Burbach.
Thailand only has an average Elo of 1,535, but this coefficient is not true for their strength because they have few Elo prizes. Moreover, all four Thai players attending this tournament were 18 years old and under, while Vietnamese members were over 18 years old.
The fastest winning game in this pair belongs to Kim Phung, when she defeated Sarocha with great advantage from the opening. Sarocha made a mistake right from the country 11, let Kim Phung test code and catch a good black. That is enough for white to achieve the advantage of winning.
The female table was not surprised in the first round, when the top seed teams won. The biggest surprise probably took place in the South table, when Sweden with an average Elo of 2,556, could not win Barbados with an average Elo only 1,998.
During the opening ceremony on July 28, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi appeared and said that this award will be "remembered forever". This is the first time India has hosted the chess Olympiad, with the number of countries, teams and female players attending a record level.
The South Vietnamese team did not attend the tournament because the top players were busy. And China, Russia and Belarus have not sent any team to participate.
The second round takes place from 16:30 Saturday, July 30, Hanoi time.
