Indonesia The Vietnamese women's team successfully defended the 2023 Asian beach handball championship with a winning record.

The ninth Asian Men's and Women's Beach Handball Championship will take place in Bali, Indonesia from March 10 to 19. Vietnam beach handball team participates in both men's and women's events.

Vietnamese women compete with four teams, namely Indonesia, Hong Kong and the Philippines in the first and second leg format. The team showed outstanding strength when winning all six matches, not even losing a half. The Vietnamese women also won a round early when they defeated Hong Kong 2-0 on March 15. In the last tournament in Thailand last year, the team also won.

Thailand currently leads with three championships after seven times hosting the women's event. In the 2017 and 2019 tournaments, Vietnam also won the runner-up.

Meanwhile, in the men's content, Vietnam passed the group stage with second place with four wins against Kuwait, China, Hong Kong and Indonesia. Vietnam lost only one match against the top team of Oman group.

In the semi-finals, Vietnam faced Qatar and lost 0-2, each half ended with a close score of 18-19. Vietnam will meet Iran in the bronze medal match on the afternoon of March 19. Previously, Iran became the former king after losing to Oman in the semi-finals. This is the fourth time in a row that Vietnam has competed in the bronze medal match with a record of winning one against Oman and losing two to Iran.

In the men's content, West Asian countries dominated when they won all eight championships, of which Qatar won five times. The region will have its ninth championship when this year's final takes place between Qatar and Oman.

Although not in the final, the men's beach handball team still followed in the footsteps of Vietnamese women to win tickets to the World Championships in June 2024. Particularly, Vietnamese women also won tickets to the World Beach Games in August 2023 also in Bali, Indonesia.

SEA Games 32 next May in Cambodia will not have beach handball, after two consecutive periods Vietnam dominated both content.
