Vietnamese women win the second fight in AFF Cup.
Scoring: Hoang Quynh 42, Huynh Nhu 45, 72, Hai Yen 57, 65
Having met a much weaker opponent, head coach Maidezhong put captain Ren Huang on the bench and gave 20-year-old striker Zhou Shiwang a chance. But just 25 minutes later he had to bring Huynh Nhu to the field when the team repeatedly squandered chances. It was not until the 42nd minute that the team with higher scores opened the record. From a pass from left-back My Anh, midfielder Pham Hoang Quynh completed a one-footed knockout of goalkeeper Bangon Phonexay.
My Anh was the first Vietnamese female player to receive a transfer money, up to VND 500 million when signing a contract with Thai Nguyen at the end of May 2022. And Hoang Quynh first scored for Vietnam in an official tournament.
This goal helps Vietnam eliminate pressure and make better use of opportunities. Just four minutes later, Tran Thi Thu crossed Huynh Nhu's header into the net and goalkeeper Phonexay missed it.
The match seemed to fall after the first half. In the second half, coach Mai Duc Chung brought striker Pham Hai Yen in place of Hoang Quynh. Hai Yen quickly made a double within eight minutes, before Huynh Nhu set a 5-0 victory with a direct free kick.
After two games, Vietnam scored 6 points and scored 8 goals without conceding a goal. But the team still finished second in the group as Myanmar also won, scoring 10 goals and keeping a clean sheet. Vietnam will have a chance to overtake Myanmar as it meets what is considered the weakest team in East Timor's group in the third round on July 11, while Myanmar takes on Laos.
