Which team has to move the most AFF Cup 2022?
From the first match to the end of the group stage, the Philippines played in Phnom Penh (Cambodia), Manila (Philippines), Pathum Thani (Thailand) and then returned to Manila in the last match against Indonesia. Their distance traveled only by air is also at 6,170 km, the most of the 10 teams in the group stage. On average, they have to travel 514 km per day.
In terms of distance traveled per day, Brunei is the team that suffers the most. Despite choosing a neutral airport in Kuala Lumpur, they still had to fly a total of 5,942 km in nine days, an average of 660 km per day, corresponding to the distance between Hanoi and Hue.
The team that has to travel the least in the group stage is Laos, with a total of 4,005 km. But due to having to play four consecutive matches, the average flight distance to Laos is 445 km a day. The shortest average daily travel team is Cambodia with 377 km.
Vietnam ranked fourth in terms of total distance traveled, with 4,877 km in 12 days of the group stage. On average, Park Hang-seo teachers and students move 406 km per day, the second least after Cambodia. The average flight distance of a team in the group stage is 5,131 km.
The distance between the Philippines and Laos is more than 2,000 km. However, with current passenger aircraft speeds of more than 900 km/h, this distance corresponds to just over two hours. If averaged by days, this difference is not significant.
However, the format of the AFF Cup 2022 was criticized by coach Keisuke Honda on December 21. Cambodia received the Philippines in Group A on December 20, and the next day spent time flying to Indonesia, so it was impossible to practice. They only had one practice session on December 22, before playing host Indonesia a day later. It is also Indonesia's first match in the tournament. "Such a timetable is unacceptable," the Cambodian coach wrote on Facebook.
