Why are the Memphis Grizzlies off the Playoffs, LA Lakers or Golden State Warriors secretly happy?
Reputable sources simultaneously confirmed, Memphis Grizzlies will not have the service of star Steven Adams in the upcoming Play-off round. The New Zealand player's right knee injury made him an unwilling spectator of the postseason series.
Previously, Adams suffered a sprained posterior cruciate ligament injury and has been out of action since January 22, after the match against the Phoenix Suns. A month ago, he was injected with stem cells to treat an injury, in the hope of being able to return in the Play-off round.
Since Steven Adams's absence, the Memphis Grizzlies have won 20 and lost 15 games, which is not really high. The problem will become more serious when the team enters the postseason phase. The 10-year NBA forward is more Play-off experience than anyone else in Memphis.
Recently, things have become more positive for teachers and coaches Taylor Jenkins, when they won 10 of the last 13 matches of the main season. However, the 38-year-old strategist certainly does not want to lose a striker who is at the peak of his career.
The former Oklahoma City Thunder player averaged 11.5 rebounds in 42 games earlier this season - establishing a career high. Adams is also one of the NBA's most effective strikers, and will open up countless attacking options when Ja Morant plays the main ball.
The inside staff of the Memphis Grizzlies are not thinned out until now. Before that, they received a loss when Brandon Clarke ruptured his Achilles tendon and rested for the rest of the season. Their number 5 spot is left alone by Xavier Tillman, and to some extent by Jaren Jackson Jr.
To fill the void left by Adams and Clarke, Memphis decided to upgrade Kenny Lofton's contract. He is no longer a two-way player, but officially becomes a member of the Grizzlies with a 4-year agreement.
Lofton averaged 20.2 points, 10.4 rebounds and 4 assists with Memphis Hustle, and received the G-League Rookie of the Year award. Of course, the gap between this 2nd division tournament and the NBA is huge, but the Grizzlies have no choice but to sacrifice rookie Kenedy Chandler to get a spot for Lofton.
Information about Steven Adams injury could lead to calculations of the Western teams in the final game of the main season. The Golden State Warriors, LA Lakers, LA Clippers or New Orleans Pelicans are competing for the 5-8 position of the West.
With Memphis going to the Play-off round as the 2nd seed, it cannot be ruled out that the above teams will try to avoid the 5th place. In their draw, the Grizzlies will face the team with play-in best in round 1, before facing the winner of the Sacramento Kings match against the 6th seed.
