Will Anthony Davis have a new partner in the Los Angeles Lakers starting lineup?
Anthony Davis is a striker that is considered a rare talent. He has a flexible play style, scores at all three distances (close-in, middle, 3 points) and possesses good tactical vision.
But Davis also gives any coach in the hot seat at the Los Angeles Lakers a headache because his position preferences are constantly changing. Sometimes AD prioritizes playing as a striker, sometimes he wants to switch to number 4 to hit the striker.
So what is the plan? It is possible that the Lakers coaching staff will remove the PF/C position boundary and let Anthony Davis play freely. Besides, they will add another bigman to the starting lineup, a very new name - Jaxson Hayes.
During the last NBA Free Agency transfer window, the Los Angeles Lakers signed a two-year, $4.6 million deal with Hayes, the 23-year-old bigman who was picked in the 8th round by the New Orleans Pelicans in 2019.
Journalist Jovan Buha further pointed out that the Los Angeles Lakers' position of striker and center is causing quite a headache for the coaching staff. The difficulty is that they are not sure who to choose with so many excellent players in hand.
“There are at least five players who deserve to play more than 20 minutes per game in the F/C position of the Los Angeles Lakers, at least in the regular season rotation that includes Anthony Davis, LeBron James, Rui Hachimura , Jarred Vanderbilt and Taurean Prince” shared Athletic reporter.
However, Jaxson Hayes seems to have been trusted for a place in the starting line-up alongside Anthony Davis and LeBron James, opening up a better opportunity for the bigman born in 2000.
Jaxson Hayes was once selected in the 8th round of the 2019 NBA Draft with the hope of becoming a multitasking bigman in the New Orleans Pelicans shirt. However, in 4 years playing here, Hayes did not leave much impression.
He averaged just 7.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game over four seasons. In the last season alone, Jaxson's statistics hit a career low with only 5.0 points and 2.8 rebounds.
It is hard to blame Jaxson Hayes when the young player has not been able to overcome more experienced names like Jonas Valanciunas or Larry Nance Jr.
Coming to the Los Angeles Lakers, the 23-year-old bigman will have the opportunity to experience new environments and new roles. He has shown the ability to play with enthusiasm and blood, which will greatly benefit the team that needs positive energy for the Lakers.
